Mums the Word

Yesterday, I (Big Sis here) decided to head to one of my favorite places, the Missouri Botanical Gardens, to take some photos. The weather was so nice I just couldn’t resist. I found several changes had been made since I was there last week. The workers and volunteers had been busy clearing and replanting flowers throughout the gardens. I found some amazing beds of mums and wanted to share some of the beautiful color with you! Enjoy!

Orchids

One of the most popular flower shows that our local Botanical Gardens showcases each year is the orchid show. This past year was the first time I (Lil Sis here) had actually gone to view the flowers and, Holy Guacamole, was there some serious orchids there.

I have to applaud the Gardens here because they try very hard to showcase the orchids is as natural of a way that they can. They go to great lengths to inform and educate the viewers on how these plants grow in their native habitats. Did you know there were some orchid species that only grow in Madagascar? Yea, I didn’t either.

Big Sis took numerous photos at the show and I wanted to show you 2 of my favorites. There are many more and I’ll be posting more soon but as a quick preview here you go.

Today Big Sis and I spent time pouring over photos that were recently shot and that we’re getting ready to upload to the Etsy store.

Whew! Talk about a ton of pics! Big Sis is a photo taking machine. This is the same woman that when she came to visit me in Canterbury, during my study abroad semester, took over 14 rolls of film just at Leeds castle alone. Yes, I said over 14. I told you she was a machine. Just thinking about the film development cost of that trip makes my nose bleed. >.<

But I realized while pouring through these newest ones that there is a certain look that Big Sis manages to attain in almost all of her shots. For me, it’s like she’s spotlighting these little plants in a way that I hadn’t seen them before.  It’s a wonderful, amazing and dazzling thing. And yes I’m hella jealous of her but that’s okay. Check out this one that didn’t make the cut below.

This one turned out too dark.

So thankfully, there were a few good ones. It’s interesting how you can take 100’s of photos and in the end only get a handful that are spotlight quality. But then again all photos are special in their own way. 😉

And if you enjoyed these photos please share this blog and check out our newly opened Etsy shop, A Walk on the Wild Side here.
